Overview
Through the Japanese Beginners Step 1 from The University of Edinburgh you will learn to read and write in Hiragana. You will also learn to introduce yourself, ask basic questions about others, explain where you live as well as order food and pay in a restaurant.
You will develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through a variety of learning activities in class and at home. Class based activities include small-group role-plays, responding to short texts, listening to dialogues or watching video clips. Language learning requires regular practice, and you will consolidate your skills at home, with vocabulary, grammar and writing exercises.
If you have fully engaged with all the learning activities and have attended regularly, by the end of the course, you should be able to:
- Read and write using the Hiragana writing system
- Introduce yourself and ask others for personal information (e.g. What is your name? Where do you come from?)
- Order food and pay in a restaurant
