Overview
You’ll study low- and high-frequency models to analyse existing rooms and design new ones, exploring both wave-based and statistical approaches. You’ll also learn how objective acoustic measures relate to listener experience, and gain practical insight into using sound-absorbing and sound-scattering treatments.
The Architectural and Building Acoustics module at the University of Salford also covers essential techniques for reducing noise ingress and egress in spaces such as performance venues, studios, and critical listening rooms.
Careers
This module can open up careers where you can lead and influence acoustics and audio engineering research, broadcast engineering, loudspeaker and audio system design, sound innovation and consumer audio product development.
Programme Structure
You will:- Develop a comprehensive understanding of room acoustics using low‑ and high‑frequency theoretical models
- Apply fundamental acoustic principles to the design and assessment of real rooms
- Solve and evaluate practical challenges in enclosed‑space acoustics, including noise control and room performance
- Understand how listeners perceive sound in rooms and how perception informs acoustic evaluation
