History

Cardiff Metropolitan University traces its history back to 1865 when the School of Art first opened in Cardiff. Since it has developed into a university, it has remained rooted in Wales while providing practice-focused and professionally oriented education to students from around the globe.

At Cardiff Met we also support graduates for up to three years after they graduate. 

The courses are career-focused and strive to put employability into the curriculum, whether this is through industry placements or through following live-briefs from industry. We work with employers to help them connect with our student body and attract the best talent.

Student services

Cardiff Met offers dedicated student support for international students through our Global Student Advisory Team, based over email or in the Global Lounge on Llandaff Campus. They’re here to offer information, advice and guidance to help you get the most out of your studies with us.

Not only this, but we also offer you support for any additional support needs you might require. This could be through extended times in exams, to screen readers to help you with your studies. 

Housing services

Cardiff Metropolitan University has nearly 1,000 study bedrooms located at the Cyncoed and Plas Gwyn campuses and allocate a further 600 private en-suite halls of residence to students through nomination agreements.

Cardiff is a city of students, and there is many options to suit whatever you need. 

Library services

Cardiff offers access to digital and physical collections, including its own Special Collections. MetSearch offers access to 1000s of ebooks and ejournals 24/7 and 365 days a year

The library service has a team of dedicated Academic Librarians who can give you advice and support.

ICT services

Cardiff supports all aspects of using IT at Cardiff Met.  We deal with password issues and computer problems; we can help with the wi-fi and give advice on purchasing IT hardware and software.

For any IT query, you can call, email or chat online with us.  Alternatively, you can stop by the technology support desks in the learning centres.

Medical services

The Healthy University Strategy has evolved from the bottom up with commitment from all parts of the University, including the Students Union and is very much informed by the staff and student voice.

There is no healthcare facilities on campus, but being in a capital city there are plenty of local options nearby!

Cardiff Metropolitan University has two campuses:

  • Cyncoed Campus

Sports facilities

Cardiff Metropolitan University is one of the top sports universities in the UK. Some of our teams are classed as professional, and most of our teams are competing in the top level of University sport. 

Cyncoed campus is home to “Archers Arena”, home of our sports team. 

Cardiff Met Sport, the Students' Union and the Cardiff School of Sport & Health Sciences work in partnership to support the student sport and recreation experience in the University.  

Students are encouraged to lead a healthy and active lifestyle whilst studying at Cardiff Met.  

The student Sports & Fitness membership scheme provides access to the excellent facilities and programmes on offer.

Student clubs

Cardiff Metropolitan University has a diverse range of societies here at Cardiff Met, and if you don’t see one that takes your fancy it’s really easy to set up a new one. 

Fay is here to help support you in setting up and running your very own society, whether that’s finding venues, booking trips, arranging guest speakers or helping you to promote societies events and campaigns.
