Career

Following a training programme at a university of applied science such as VHL University of Applied Sciences (VHL) is a lifetime experience for many young people. They establish friendships for life and in many cases the ties to the ‘school’ remain intact. Alumni (those who have graduated) are the ambassadors of any training institute. They represent the training programme they have completed and often give something back, for example by providing guest lectures or masterclasses.

The school, in turn, is happy to provide former students with this opportunity, as it contributes to awareness of the school and the reputation in the field.

Services

Housing services

There are various solutions for housing during your study, depending on the location of your campus. Student accommodation in The Netherlands differs from many other countries: most universities do not offer housing on campus and most Dutch and International students find their own accommodation on the private market.

Many private housing agencies offer affordable student housing in the city centre of Leeuwarden. They offer a range of different furnished or unfurnished rooms, generally costing between €350 to over €500 a month.

Library services

The libraries are high-quality departments within Van Hall Larenstein. They are intensively used as places where users can meet, study, lounge and hold a meeting. The media collection is suited to the needs of the various study programmes at each campus location.

Student Life

Campus life

Our location in Leeuwarden has everything you need. For example, it has an extensive library, several laboratories, technology halls, greenhouses on the roof, an animal shelter and a Grand Café to relax every now and then.

All students will receive a personal e-mail address with which they can log on to one of the many computers inside the building to check study results, schedule changes and other current affairs. Refreshments are available via Cormet Campus Catering.

Student clubs

Of course, you can organise your new life as a student all by yourself. But you can also choose to become a member of a student association and experience your student life in the best possible way. Both options are equally fine, but it is nice to be able to choose. And this is possible! There are several student associations active in Velp (Arnhem) and Leeuwarden. Some are especially for international students.

At VHL most study programmes also have their own student association. In addition, there is an international association in Velp, created for all students from the English-taught programmes to connect, share, network, exchange, collaborate and communicate.

Accreditation

All programmes of Van Hall Larenstein are accredited by the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (in Dutch: NVAO). Every six years each programme has to renew this inspection mark. In order to accomplish this, a visitation-panel will assess the programme and produce a visitation report. Every cluster of programmes is visited in a different year.
