Rockefeller University

The Rockefeller University is a world-renowned center for research and graduate education in the biomedical sciences, chemistry, bioinformatics and physics. The university’s 75 laboratories conduct both clinical and basic research and study a diverse range of biological and biomedical problems with the mission of improving the understanding of life for the benefit of humanity.

History

In 1955, The Rockefeller Institute expanded its mission to include education and admitted its first class of graduate students. It granted its first doctoral degrees in 1959. In 1965, The Rockefeller Institute became The Rockefeller University, broadening its research mandate further.

The campus also offers athletic facilities — including a fitness center and tennis and squash courts — a full cafeteria, dining room and coffee cafe, a student lounge, a child care facility, campus-wide wireless internet access, an impressive art collection and numerous places, both indoor and out, to simply sit and think. 

Library services

Rockefeller University takes pride in its leadership position in world science, and rightly so. The University library – Markus Library – also strives to advance knowledge by supporting our University’s world class research community with technology, innovation, and collaboration in the field of science information and communication.  

Campus life

Our beautifully landscaped 14-acre campus consists of eight research buildings containing over 481,000 square feet of lab space, alongside administrative and residential buildings.

Our ongoing campus extension, which will be completed in 2019, will add two acres and thousands of square feet of new research space to the Rockefeller campus.

Sports facilities

The campus also offers athletic facilities — including a fitness center and tennis and squash courts.

The Rockefeller University has received accreditation from The Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs, Inc. (AAHRPP), a program that recognizes research organizations’ commitments to providing strong safeguards on behalf of human research participants.
