Auburn University

Auburn University today is a comprehensive land, sea and space grant institution – among the few that hold that distinction – occupying more than 1,840 acres and helping fulfill the dreams of nearly 25,000 students.

The university began, though, as the small, more humble East Alabama Male College, which was chartered in 1856 and opened its doors in 1859 as a private liberal arts institution.

At Auburn University we take pride in putting our students first. Within our 13 schools and colleges we have nationally ranked programs, including architecture, pharmacy, veterinary science, engineering, forestry, interior design and business. As Auburn University students, you should "believe in education, which gives me the knowledge to work wisely and trains my mind and my hands to work skillfully."

Research is an essential link in Auburn University's three-pronged mission of instruction, research and outreach. Successes among the varied research activities within each of its schools and colleges continue to bolster Auburn’s reputation as one of our nation’s top universities. Auburn’s role as a land-grant university emphasizes strong research programs in agriculture, natural resources, the life sciences, engineering and the physical sciences. Strong and expanding research programs exist in agriculture; architecture, design and construction; business; education; engineering; forestry and wildlife sciences; human sciences; the liberal arts; nursing; pharmacy; science and mathematics; and veterinary medicine.
