History

The University’s roots go back to 1961 when three founders of Texas Instruments — Eugene McDermott, Erik Jonsson and Cecil Green — established the Graduate Research Center of the Southwest as a source of advanced research and trained scientists to benefit the state and the nation.

Education

The University of Texas at Dallas is a rising research powerhouse with eight schools and more than 140 academic degrees including top-ranked programs in business, engineering, science, audiology and arts and technology.

The Office of Research fosters the advancement of cutting-edge research discoveries and technology at The University of Texas at Dallas.

Career

The University Career Center is a division of Student Affairs at The University of Texas at Dallas. As a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), our office complies with the Principles for Professional Conduct for Career Services Professionals. Our staff also maintains memberships in multiple professional organizations.

Student services

The Division of Student Affairs serves a critical role in ensuring the education of the whole student, and in achieving the academic mission of UT Dallas. As a member of the President's Cabinet, the Vice President for Student Affairs works on special initiatives and cross-functional projects that help create a seamless learning environment for students.

Housing services

Many students choose to live on-campus because of the convenience, security, and amenities. There are three options if you choose to live on-campus:

  • Canyon Creek Heights – furnished apartments available to Sophomore, Junior, Senior, and Graduate students
  • University Village – unfurnished apartments available to Sophomore, Junior, Senior, and Graduate students
  • University Commons – residence halls; all first-year Freshman who choose to live on campus are required to live in University Commons; also available to Sophomore, Junior, Senior, and Graduate students.

Library services

The University of Texas at Dallas Libraries pledge to promote a collaborative and congenial learning environment as active partners with the faculty and administration in realizing the University’s mission. Employing the latest technology, the Libraries will manage and maintain access to the greatest number of resources relevant to the University’s teaching and research mission.

Campus life

The campus community is enriched by a commitment to the arts, service learning opportunities and an athletics program with new esports teams. UTD students, faculty, staff and alumni continue to rise to new challenges, proving that Comets shine bright.

Sports facilities

Competing at the NCAA Division III level, the UT Dallas intercollegiate athletic program is one of the most successful in the American Southwest Conference. The program offers six men’s and seven women’s sports teams.

University Recreation offers the opportunity for students to participate in intramural and club sports programs. These programs give students an outlet for leisure, fitness, friendly competition and social and leadership development

The Activity Center includes a fitness area, racquetball, squash and basketball courts, a climbing wall, a multi-purpose room and an indoor swimming pool. Outdoors there are sand volleyball courts, tennis courts and softball, baseball and soccer fields.

Student clubs

Student Organization Center (SOC) provides programming and services for students and organizations looking to develop leadership skills, find new friends and maximize their college experience.

The University of Texas at Dallas is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate, masters and doctoral degrees.
