History
The first modern center of medical training in Iran was founded in 1851. It was a part of the Institute of Higher Education (Dar-ol-Fonoon). The School of Medicine was established as a part of University of Tehran in 1934.

Research
Over a hundred specialized research centers such as Science and Technology in Medicine, Rheumatology, Auditory, Digestive Disease, Skin Diseases and Leprosy, Trauma, Hematology and Oncology, Cardiovascular Diseases, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Reproductive Health, Urology, Immunology, and Asthma and Allergy are under the immediate supervision of this university.

Student services
TUMS International Student Ambassadors Association (TUMS ISAA), consists of student ambassadors for each country from which TUMS has admitted international students. This association has been created with the aim of creating a facilitated and productive student experience. Among other duties, student ambassadors have the responsibility of conducting online interaction with prospective applicants, especially from the ambassador’s country; conveying correct and current information about TUMS, Iran, and the student life experience in Iran; organizing student participation in university events; and acting as a representative for international students from their own countries.
Housing services
- Tehran University of Medical Sciences provides its students with high quality accommodation in two modern, recently constructed residence halls.
- All rooms are furnished with beds, drawers, closets, desk, sofa set, and chairs consistent with the number of students in each room. Each room is equipped with a television set and has internet access via hard-wired data ports as well as wireless systems.
Library services
The main goal of TUMS Digital Library is to facilitate Data base accessabilities from within and outside universities connection. We provide online resources, professional support and guidance to all our students.

- TUMS has many teaching hospitals: Imam Khomeini, Sina, Shariati, Vali-e Asr, Amir Alam, Ziayian, and Baharloo are general and referral hospitals;
- Children’s Medical Center and Bahrami Hospital are TUMS pediatric centers; Farabi Hospital is a special center for ophthalmology;
- Razi Hospital is devoted to dermatology;
- Roozbeh Hospital is a center for psychiatry;
Campus life
As a student of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, you will get experience of a busy and memorable life on campus. Apart from your classes based on weekly schedules, you have aplenty of activities to pursue on campus.
Sports facilities
- Chamran Sports Complex is a facility center which serves a broad range of athletic purposes. Located on the easy-to-access Chamran Expressway, this complex affords a tennis court, a swimming pool, a futsal field, a gymnasium, wrestling rings, table football, darts, and a multi-purpose sports hall.
- In addition to this complex, the School of Nursing and Midwifery is equipped with a swimming pool as well.
- Our residence halls and dormitories also offer gym and table tennis (ping-pong) equipment.
Student clubs
Different student associations and groups are also active in different schools. Their range of interests is extensive and includes activities such as scientific or academic work, different publications and magazines, recreational pursuits such as mountaineering etc.
All educational programs offered at TUMS and its affiliated institutions and hospitals have been approved by the governmental, academic, and professional bodies that have credibility and responsibility in the respective areas.
