Following the Gulf War in 1991, a team led by Elias Bou Saab from the American College visited the Gulf to establish relationships with various ministries of higher education as well as the region’s schools.

The university also include student activities that include over 50 active student clubs ranging from cultural clubs, performance clubs, special interest clubs, departmental clubs; in addition to active intramurals held each term and numerous annual events including a WOW Orientation (Week of Welcome), AUD Desert Safari, Ramadan Tent, Winter Ball, Thanksgiving Day and UAE National Day, International Night, AUD Gala Dinner and Award Ceremony among others.

The AUD Library supports the academic programs and research objectives of the University, and is open to students, faculty, staff and alumni of AUD. This rich academic resource aims to create a passion for the lifelong acquisition of knowledge within a collaborative learning space, and provide course-specific, research assistance to faculty and students.
Making sure you stay connected, the IT Services department incorporates all aspects of the campus operations, providing equipment, advice and support, and allowing students and faculty to take full advantage of the University’s technology assets.
The AUD Health Center, promotes, improves, and sustain a healthy campus environment by providing accessible, high-quality care, health supervision, and educational programs, which encourages AUD community to maintain their overall well-being, and improve student’s learning.

The Student Center houses indoor sports facilities, a barber shop, a beauty salon, a travel agency, a bank, a copy center, a bookstore, a supermarket, and food courts.
From the highly competitive athlete to the regular fitness fanatic, Dubai encourages all fitness levels to get up and move, by offering a host of programs, facilities and competitive arenas to suit all sporting abilities.
Sporting spectators can also be treated to some world-class sport live on their doorstep with the likes of international cricket, motorsports, tennis, golf and rugby tournaments on Dubai’s sporting calendar during the cooler months.
