Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is an international leader in medical and scientific training, biomedical research, and patient care. It is the medical school for the Mount Sinai Health System, which includes eight hospital campuses, and has more than 5,000 faculty and nearly 2,000 students, residents and fellows.

The Department of Neurosurgery was established in 1914, during a major reorganization of the Surgery Department at The Mount Sinai Hospital, by Dr. Charles A. Elsberg—Mount Sinai’s "Father of Neurosurgery.” Since our inception in 1914, our department has been leading the way in neurological research and surgical care.

As one of the nation's leading medical schools, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) has built our reputation on a tradition of groundbreaking education and translational research inspired by visionary leaders, expert faculty, and dedicated trainees. Our progressive curriculum stresses a humanistic and collaborative approach to medical practice and scientific investigation. We invite you to explore the broad and exceptional opportunities that await you at ISMMS.

Our investigators conduct basic, clinical, epidemiologic, and translational research, striving to rapidly transform scientific advances into improved patient care and outcomes. Through our progressive, patient-focused research and a history rich in clinical milestones, we have pioneered breakthroughs that have improved and saved countless lives. We embrace the idea that scientific revolutions, like technological revolutions, occur when we pursue big ideas, challenge the conventional wisdom and speed the pace of discovery. We are an engine of discovery, with a mission to create new treatments for the patients who need them most, curing diseases once thought incurable and helping people worldwide.

Our faculty and staff at the Icahn Institute and Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences are leading the way in biomedical science and personalized medicine. In addition to the  academic and clinical support our faculty and staff receives, you’ll also receive a wide range of personal and professional benefits.
