History
From its period as an imperial city to the last third of the twentieth century, Augsburg had several educational centres whose significance extended far beyond the city's boundaries, but not a university. The lyceum, established in 1834 and annexed a year later to the re-established Benedictine Abbey of St. Stephen.
Education
The University of Augsburg offers a broad spectrum of almost 90 degree programmes in humanities and social sciences, business and law, natural and engineering sciences, medicine and computer science.

Sports facilities
The Si Melby Hall gymnasium has various open times during the summer, due to camps and other rentals. Check the weekly schedule linked above for open gym times.During the summer, the fitness centers (Hoyt Messerer Fitness Center and James Haglund Family Fitness and Recreation Center) will be open on Mondays-Thursdays from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Augsburg is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, North Central Association* and is a member of the Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (ACTC), Lutheran Education Council of North America, and the Minnesota Private College Council.
