Saga University dates back July 1884 when Saga Normal School was founded. In 1949 it became Saga University.

Research
As our major appeal, we promote world-level research projects, including Advanced Ocean Energy Research. Research projects should be highly specialized and strategic. We develop concrete strategies to make a fusion of research "Needs" and "Seeds". Focusing on the collaborative research among the university, industry, and the local government, we create unique research projects which make us prominent on the world stage.

Student services
The mission of the Center for Promotion of International Exchange is to contribute to further development of internationalization of Saga University by creating new waves of international exchange in expanding international educational programs for both Japanese and International students, promoting actively to exchange researchers and students with universities and institutes abroad.
Housing services
University Accommodations for International Students are a 3-minute walk from campus. Each room has kitchen, bathroom and toilet. It comes furnished with a bed(w/o bed clothes), a closet, a bookshelf, a refrigerator, a desk, a chair, a dining table and a gas-cooker, for the convenience of students setting up to live in Japan. Each floor has a laundry room. WiFi connectivity is available in the lounge room. If you make internet contract separately, internet is available in your room.
Library services
The Main Library has 573 reading seats, several group study rooms, a multimedia room, private reading rooms, a browsing corner and a lounge where computer terminals are provided for information retrieval through the network. The medical library has 136 reading seats and personal computers for information access and study space.
ICT services
Computer and Network Center manages all aspects of computing at Saga University. It provides all students and staff with access to a variety of computer facilities for academic research and scholarly activities. The Center has offices on both the Honjo Campus and the Nabeshima Campus, and each campus has the Terminal Room.
Medical services
The Health Care Center supports the physical and mental health of all the members of Saga University by providing primary health care, prevention-focused services, and medical information to develop health knowledge and practical health-care skills. The Center is staffed by experienced doctors and nurses, and is located on both the Honjo Campus and the Nabeshima Campus.
