Chonnam National University (CNU) set sail in Gwanjgu, at the center of the Honam region on June 9, 1952. The university emerged from the ashes of the Korean War with the support of local citizens who wanted to foster talented students. Even though CNU was established only about 60 years ago, it is celebrating more than 100 years of tradition because of the schools that were merged under CNU.

The total amount of research funds that CNU professors were rewarded exceeded 120 billion won, enlisting CNU as a top-10 research university in Korea. CNU was also selected as a world-class research university. CNU is on sound footing in terms of research capacity.

The size of the Chonnam National University Library amounts to 10,415 pyeong with 5,600 seats, 1.4 million books and 5,400 (donated) serials. The library embraces cutting-edge IT, e-journals and e-books to further strengthen research support base.

Chonnam National University has two main campuses, one in Gwangju and the other in the Yeosu.
Classes:
CNU has more than 80 actively operating clubs in the areas of liberal arts, academics, athletics, volunteer service and religion. Each college also has specialized clubs.
The CNU Club Association hosts an annual event that advertises clubs and helps freshmen get to know their own interests.
