History

Toyohashi University of Technology (Toyohashi Tech) was established in 1976 to respond to the societal need to foster practical, creative engineers and cultivate qualified individuals who would show initiative and display leadership abilities. With this guiding philosophy, Toyohashi Tech focused largely on recruiting graduates of technical colleges.

Education

Based on supporting technological progress through scientific inquiry, Toyohashi University of Technology's mission is the promotion of education and research in both academic and technological fields of science that lead to the creation of new technology. We have and continue to foster engineers and resourceful individuals, active at an international level, who are well rounded, practical, creative, capable of leadership, have an international outlook and value co-existence with the environment. We also continue to conduct research into pioneering technology that will forge a path for the next generation.

Research

Therefore, education and research at our institution is not only required to provide pioneering research and development capabilities but is also imperative to take the lead in research fields that bring about innovation in industries and society, as well as foster internationally-minded engineers who can be active at the global level.

Career

We provide active employment support for students, such as career guidance, company information sessions, and employment lectures.

After the master's degree program, 15% of international students go on to our doctoral degree program. 45% of TUT graduates gain employment immediately after graduation, 36% of them find work in Japan, 9% work abroad.

After the doctoral degree program, more than 50% of Ph.D. international students gain employment immediately after graduation, 20% of them find work in Japan, 32% work abroad.

After graduating from TUT, our alumni move on to active careers in corporations and universities all over the world, including Japanese corporations.

Student services

The Center for International Relations offers free Japanese language lessons for the students, researchers and their families, as well as the student counselling services.

There are faculty members who can speak both English and Japanese at the Center for International Relations. They provide counseling and advising services for problems related to academics and everyday life. Counselors and doctors are also available to provide counseling and advising services for academics, life or health.

Housing services

International house with 40 single rooms and 10 family/couple rooms are designed for newly arrived international students, mainly for Japanese government (MEXT) scholarship students, short-term students from the partner universities.

Both Japanese students and international students can stay in the student dormitory A-F, and there are 595 single rooms in total. The application period for the student dormitory is in midsummer to fall every year.

Both International House and Student Dormitories are well furnished; basically there are bed, desk, chair, shelf, drawer, and air-conditioner. Some rooms have small kitchen, toilet, and shower or bath-tab.

Library services

University Library with 180,000 books offers 24 hours, 7days a week services for all students, and it also provides accesses to most major database and bibliography with own searching systems, as well as online access to Japanese governmental papers and other major databases.

Sports facilities

We have athletic facilities for the purposes of physical education and extarcurricular sports activities. If you wish to use these facilities, please contact the Student Affairs Division for approval.

In Toyohashi University of Technology, there are various students circles, and some of them are famous in Japan, such as TUT ROBOCON Team, which won Japanese championship in 2009 and 2008, and second prize in 2010.
