History

National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) was established in March 1991 for the promotion of higher scientific education in the country, especially in the fields of science and technology, by providing a stable and disciplined academic environment together with need-based research, pertinent to industrial requirements. The University was granted its Charter in 1993.

Education

NUST is a new-age university defining new frontiers in teaching and research. The programs are distinctive for their high-quality research orientation. Notwithstanding the significance of undergraduate courses, there is ever-growing emphasis on postgraduate studies and research output. Creativity and innovation are embedded as core values in all scholastic activities. The conducive academic environment at the campuses facilitates educational pursuits.

Research

Research is the focal point of university education all over the world. Universities significantly contribute towards creation of new knowledge and discovery of new frontiers of creativity and innovation. In order to develop NUST into a true Centre​ of excellence, it is imperative that apart from maintaining high standards in teaching, research is rigorously pursued and suitably rewarded. The research output of NUST is in line with national needs and contributes towards socio-economic growth of the country.

Career

Career Development Centre (CDC) CDC provides programmes and services to help students and alumni explore and make effective career choices, foster professional networks with employers and assist employers in meeting their recruitment needs. The office offers various avenues to the students for personal and professional development and supports them in achieving their goals.

Student services

Student Centre operates under the auspices of Student Affairs Directorate. The Centre renders multiple services to NUST students as delineated below:

  • Acts as a Front Office for processing all student related affairs/ queries i.e. degrees, transcripts, refunds, scholarships etc.
  • Deals with discipline matters of students, as and when referred to SA Dte by NUST institutions. Director Student Affairs heads the Discipline Committee
  • Coordinates/ facilitates activities of all the University Clubs and Societies.The conduct of co-curricular activities through these fora enables students to hone their mental abilities and prepare themselves for the daunting challenges of future

Housing services

NUST Campus, Islamabad, provides hostel facilities essentially to the outstation students as per hostel allotment criteria. The hostels are equipped with all the facilities necessary for comfortable living.

The hostel routine allows the students to utilize their time in the best possible manner. The management is at their service round the clock.

Hostel Accommodation in the relevant category is strictly alloted according to the application seniority list.

Library services

NUST Central Library is currently undergoing through a rapid development phase. The facility is likely to have books in the excess of 200,000 volumes, Journals, Off and online databases and other non-book materials. The library will aim at serving the educational as well as research needs of the students, faculty and researchers.

Medical services

Medical Services - Implements policies related to health services, provides outpatient medical care for students and staff, arranges inpatient medical cover in affiliated hospitals, and promotes activities for general well being of NUST community.

Campus life

NUST is a multi-campus university spread all over Pakistan. Its central campus is in Islamabad with other campuses at Rawalpindi, Risalpur and Karachi.

The CENTRAL CAMPUS has been established at Sector H-12, Islamabad to cater for the fast-growing requirements of a technologically advanced campus of science and technology. Besides the Rectorate, new high-tech postgraduate schools, centers and institutes have been established at this campus. Undergraduate and postgraduate programs have commenced from Fall 2008 and a number of new programs have commenced since Fall 2013.

Sports facilities

The primary function of any university is, of course, academic, but university recognizes the importance & value of development of physical skills and fostering of recreational needs of students and staff in promoting good health, well being and good fellow/sportsmanship. It also recognizes that considerable publicity of students achievements values in the area of sports. It also provides young people with the opportunity to get fit and to always adopt healthy life style.

Besides academic excellence, the Nustians display dynamic literary, creative and artistic abilitiess and aptitude for co-curricular activities. In order to provide them with opportunities to pursue their passion in the company of like-minded individuals, Student Affairs Division is functional under the auspices of Student Affairs Directorate. Deputy Director Student Affairs is the chief coordinator and thus responsible for smooth prevalence of co-curricular activities at the campus.
