History
Lakehead University evolved from the Lakehead Technical Institute (LTI), which was established in 1946. From LTI, Lakehead became the Lakehead College of Arts, Science and Technology in 1956.

Housing services
- Orillia Residence is a modern, 7 floor, smoke-free residence hall. It is the preferred type of housing for Secondary School level students who are leaving home for the very first time and also for international and upper year students who enjoy community living and the stress-free convenience of being on campus.
- Our environmentally-sustainable 240-bed residence features a unique modern design where each student will have their own single room either with a shared bathroom with only one other person or a single room with a private bathroom.
- Each floor houses 40 single rooms, a laundry facility, kitchenette, and quiet study room.

- Lakehead University Libraries is an innovative organization that anticipates the requirements of the future while respecting the heritage of the past.

Campus life
- Lakehead University's main campus is located in the City of Thunder Bay. Located on the shores of Lake Superior in Northwestern Ontario, the City of Thunder Bay is truly ‘superior by nature’. With a population of over 110,000 residents, Thunder Bay has all the amenities of a large centre combined with a small town charm and feel.
- Lakehead University’s Orillia campus is celebrating it’s 10th Anniversary. In 2006, the Lakehead experience was brought to Central Ontario’s beautiful cottage country in the City of Orillia.
Sports facilities
The Lakehead Athletics Centre, includes The Wolf Den, a brand new state-of-the-art athletics facility which will feature a multi-use gymnasium, cardio and weight equipment, lounge areas, and will allow for enhanced space and programming for health, wellness, and recreation; the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse, containing a 15,000 square foot Thunderdome gymnasium, fitness centre, 50-metre eight-lane swimming pool, Kinesiology labs hot yoga studio, High Performance Hockey Centre and change rooms complete with saunas and the 50,000 square foot Hangar, an athletic facility home to a 200-metre track.

The Lakehead University Student Union (LUSU) offers a wide-variety of services, clubs, jobs, and volunteer opportunities throughout the year. It's the place to get involved, take action, and express your opinions.
