University of Central Missouri

History

Founded in 1871, the University of Central Missouri is one of the oldest universities in Missouri. We have a rich educational heritage of building lifelong learners dedicated to service. Over the years, UCM has gone through a variety of name changes, each one reflecting the changed nature of the institution. Founded as Normal School No. 2, it later became known as Warrensburg Teachers College.

Education

Statistics recently released by the Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE) show that UCM’s degree completion rate per full-time equivalent (FTE) is the highest among all of Missouri’s public universities and more than double the state benchmark.

Research

Welcome to the Office of Undergraduate Research! Our goal is twofold: (1) to promote undergraduate research and creative activities on campus as highlighted by the annual Scholars Symposium and Creative Achievement Day and (2) to serve The Honors College, particularly through the guidance of the Honors Project.

Career

One of the biggest reasons you chose the University of Central Missouri is because you knew UCM would prepare you for your future. In fact, 96% of our graduates say their academic program prepared them for success.

UCM also has a 94% first destination success rate, which means our graduates are either working, going to graduate school, serving in the military, or participating in a volunteer or service program.

The Career Services Center is an integral part of that preparation. Here you can explore internship and career opportunities, strengthen your job search skills and build important connections for your future.

Student services

Welcome to Graduate and International Student Services at the University of Central Missouri. UCM is built on a strong foundation of outstanding graduate faculty and staff who are active in both scholarship and professional activities.

Our faculty are dedicated to excellence in teaching and you will find our staff to be friendly, efficient, and responsive.  If you are a recent college graduate or a seasoned career professional, we hope that you will make Graduate Studies at UCM part of your future.

Housing services

UCM offers five apartment complexes for students that are located both on campus (Todd, foster-Knox, and Nickerson) and near campus (Greenwood Park and Central Village). On-campus accommodations come furnished while those nearby to campus do not. Rent charges are posted at the beginning of each semester to student accounts. Campus-affiliated housing is on a first come, first serve basis, so we recommend selecting top choices in order to secure housing.

Library services

The library is the place for all of your study and research needs. Whether you need a big table for group projects, a quiet place to work alone, or just a computer, JCKL has you covered. For research, JCKL provides access to hundreds of thousands of books, millions of scholarly articles, custom-made research starter guides, and expert librarians on call to help you find what you need.

ICT services

The Office of Technology at the University of Central Missouri has the responsibility and duties to leverage and support technology resources for academic and administrative activities and functions across campus that directly and indirectly support the Student Success Model and Strategic Resource Allocation.

Medical services

In an effort to safeguard the health and well-being of students and employees, our office is minimally staffed. Rather than walking in to make an appointment or ask a question, please call 660-543-4770 for assistance.

Campus life

UCM's 13 residence halls are no more than a six-minute walk from classroom buildings and recreational facilities. Every room offers a fiber-optic Internet link, cable TV hookup, and local telephone service; parking comes with the room. Also available are suites, special-interest housing programs, and apartments.

Sports facilities

An NCAA Division II school and member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association, Central Missouri fields 17 varsity teams. Known as the Mules and Jennies, our teams have one of the strongest winning traditions at the conference, regional, and national levels.

Student clubs

The University of Central Missouri has over 200 recognized student organizations. There are 8 different categories of organizations, including:

  • Academic/Departmental - Organizations must be tied to an academic program or department on campus.
  • Community Service - Organizations that donate the majority of their time to being a service organization.
  • Cultural Heritage/Ethnic Identity - Organizations that represent ethnic culture and heritage.
  • Honor Society - Organizations that are recognized as an honors group. These groups have strict guidelines with GPA and hours.

The University of Central Missouri is fully accredited at the national level by the Higher Learning Commission. Our teacher education programs have been authorized by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for teacher licensure.
