History
Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic programme of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995. At present the Institute has eleven departments and five inter-disciplinary academic centres covering all the major engineering, science and humanities disciplines, offering BTech, BDes, MA, MDes, MTech, MSc and PhD programmes.
Education
Within a short period of time, IIT Guwahati has been able to build up world class infrastructure for carrying out advanced research and has been equipped with state-of-the-art scientific and engineering instruments.
Research
Research is an integral part of the activities of Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. The Institute conducts researches within its academic programmes under all the departments and the academic centres. Its faculty members also conduct research projects sponsored by various government agencies and companies. The aims of theses sponsored researches are varied starting from the advancement of theoretical knowledge to development of new technology to solve practical problems.

Best Global Universities Rankings by U.S. News & World Report presents all the top universities from the U.S. and 60 other countries around the world. They measure the rate of students going to their second year of studies, as well as the rate of students who graduate. It also asks university representatives on the performance of universities, and evaluates university resources, teacher salaries, graduation rates, student academic achievements and satisfaction. After calculating and comparing these criteria, U.S. News ranks the top international universities accordingly.
Housing services
Accommodation for the participants is being arranged in the IIT Guwahati Institute Guest House and Hotels which are closer to IIT Guwahati (Venue of the Symposium). Delegates may send their request to the Convener, Local Organizing Committee by indicating the details in the Proforma along with crossed D.D. of amount as per the choice of their hotel. An advance amount of one day will be required for payment - for reserving the rooms and will be adjusted against the accommodation charges later.
Campus life
Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati's campus is on a sprawling 285 hectares plot of land on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra around 20 kms. from the heart of the city. With the majestic Brahmaputra on one side, and with hills and vast open spaces on others, the campus provides an ideal setting for learning.
Sports facilities
All outdoor sports like athletics, swimming, cricket, football, hockey, basketball, volleyball, etc. and indoor sports like table tennis, weight lifting, chess, carrom, squash, etc. are actively played by all throughout the year.We organize and promote all extra-curricular activities in the field of sports. It has currently twelve clubs: Athletics and Gymnastics Club, aquatics Club, Badminton Club, Basketball Club, Cricket Club, Football Club, Hockey Club, Lawn Tennis Club, Table Tennis Club, Squash Club, Volleyball Club and Weightlifting Club. The three main events conducted every year are Inter IIT Sports Meet, Spardha and Spirit.
