History
The first proposal for launching the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad was announced concurrently with the establishment of Tehran University in 1934. However, the first step was converting the Higher Institute of Public Health to a Medical Faculty in 1949. Finally in 1956 after the foundation of the facultys of Literature and Theology, the complex was named "Mashhad University".
Education
Schools and departments are the major bodies responsible for carrying out activities that would lead to achieving goals of the higher education system and to fulfill the needs of the society by educating specialists in different fields of study. Best Global Universities Rankings by U.S. News & World Report presents all the top universities from the U.S. and 60 other countries around the world. They measure the rate of students going to their second year of studies, as well as the rate of students who graduate. It also asks university representatives on the performance of universities, and evaluates university resources, teacher salaries, graduation rates, student academic achievements and satisfaction. After calculating and comparing these criteria, U.S. News ranks the top international universities accordingly.
Student services
The office for International Students at the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad was established in 2014 to help those who are interested in studying at the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. Based on different cultural activities, a general aim of this office is to provide a friendly environment for international students and to strengthen the communication between different cultures. With their innovation, creativity, motivation, and enthusiasm, non-Iranian students can assist the university to expand such cultural activities.
Housing services
- Dormitory facilities on each floor: bathrooms, kitchen (equipped with a dishwashing sink, dishwashing liquid, a dishwashing scotch, a dish holder, a stove, a fridge, etc.), phones, and a water dispenser.
- Dormitory rooms' facilities: beds, desks, and chairs, a rug, a carpet, a fridge, a wardrobe, a curtain, a shoe rack, coat hangers, a mirror, air conditioning equipment (including a heater and air conditioner), a rubbish bin, a light bulb, fluorescent lamps.
- Outside dormitory equipment: park, exercise equipment, chess tables, table and chairs, telephone booths, shops, guard (in charge of students’ safety, security, maintaining order in dormitories, controlling entry and exit hours, etc).
Library services
The faculty libraries are specialized libraries. These libraries which are associated with the facultys collect, organize and make information resources accessible based on the information needs of students and faculty members.

ICT services
There is a high-speed Internet access at Ferdowsi's Campus. Wireless system is accessible at the international campus with two usernames. For this type of connection, there is no need for initial configurations.
Medical services
This center is on the university campus and is located beside the Student Affairs Administration building. It includes the following units: medical, dental, environmental health, nursing, trusted doctors, drugstore, and ER.
