History
Founded in 1973, the University of Rijeka has matured into a modern European university and center of excellence whose impact extends beyond the region. With a total of 16 academic units, we are a research, science, and education-oriented university that supports social and economic development in our community, the City of Rijeka, and the wider region.
Education
The University of Rijeka is a socially responsible and open university – not only are we open to international students, teaching staff, and researchers, but also to recent developments in higher education. As our vision places the University of Rijeka within the 500 top rated European universities, we have chosen the path of dynamic growth. Having embraced an organized and systematic approach to mobility, our University supports scientific and artistic careers alike, enabling each individual to express their talents and entrepreneurial potential.
Research
In the last few years, the University of Rijeka has been involved in a number of European projects in the field of innovation and knowledge transfer, and is continuously working to strengthen institutional capacities in the aforementioned areas. The central point for issues in the field of innovation and knowledge transfer at the University of Rijeka is the Centre for Innovation Initiatives (CII), which operates within the University Centre for Research and Innovation.
Career
The Career Office provides students of University of Rijeka with professional assistance related to managing their careers, supports them in developing entrepreneurial skills, teaches them how to increase their prospects on the labour market and connects them with potential employers. The Career Office also offers the possibility of both individual and group career counseling to make it easier for students to enter the labour market.

Appropriate health care is ensured for all students studying at the University of Rijeka who are not from Rijeka.
Students can access health care by choosing a primary health care physician in their place of study by signing the form Statement on the selection/change of the chosen physician (Izjava o izboru/promjeni izabranog doktora).
Campus life
The University of Rijeka is located in the City of Rijeka, the third largest city in Croatia and the main Croatian port. As one of the largest universities in the region, it comprises 12 Faculties and 4 Departments, which offer more than 172 accredited study programs.
