History
For over 60 years, AUP has attracted students who want to build bridges and take down walls across the globe through meaningful, international careers. Our Founder, Dr. Lloyd A. DeLamater, was a diplomat, and his firm belief in international cooperation and cultural exchange still resonates with today’s AUP graduates, who live and work in more than 140 countries worldwide.
Education
AUP’s founding purpose is to educate those seeking to live as part of a global community, whose ideals cross borders and whose focus is on international cooperation. Our academic approach reflects this goal, fostering key skills such as cultural translation, adaptability and the appreciation of multiple perspectives, that allow graduates to thrive no matter where they choose to work and live. We equip students who have already identified a deep-seated desire to transcend the perspectives of the places where they grew up with the ability to navigate the complexities of international life and work.
Research
AUP is home to five mission-driven research centers that promote scholarly exchange and research on subjects that support the University’s vision. Our Paris location provides access to world-class archives, museums, institutions and experts, and the city’s long history of scholarly convocation – from the COP21 climate talks to the 1919 signing of the Treaty of Versailles – makes it the perfect place for these centers to host conferences and events that attract world-class research talent to speak at AUP.
Career
Following the completion of an AUP master’s program, graduates go on to international careers in a great variety of sectors, from humanitarian agencies and NGOs to corporations with an eye on global issues and sustainability. They also often take the initiative to found their own companies, associations or creative endeavors.
Throughout their graduate degrees, AUP guides students toward shaping their future careers around the issues and/or industries they care about most. They may arrive in Paris with a vague idea of a future career, but they will almost certainly leave with a newfound passion, interest or cause they take to heart.

Student services
The Student Leadership Office and Student Development Office have appointed 36 student advisors who will be available throughout the academic year to ensure that incoming students are welcomed into the AUP community. Your student advisor will lead you on a unique selection of social events and activities throughout the week of Orientation, as well as accompanying you throughout the semester to answer questions, direct you to relevant campus services and update you about student activities. Take the time to get to know your student advisor and don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment if you simply want to chat or have any questions.
Housing services
Housing at AUP is a very special experience – that of living in one of the actual neighborhoods of the most beautiful city in the world. Where you live encompasses much more than just where you sleep and shower; it also includes the shops and cafes you frequent, the parks and streets you walk in, the metro and bus stops you use, and the neighbors you get to know. In short, this is the part where you live like a local. Every AUP student lives in a shared apartment, a studio, a private home, or a house and comes to feel that his or her quartier is home.
Library services
With 44,000 books and 92,000 print and online periodicals, the AUP Library is the perfect starting point for projects to take off. Because an effective use of information and resources is essential to completing your academic goals, our team of professional librarians collaborates with faculty for the best possible delivery of information literacy and reference and research help services.
ICT services
Our ITS department provides you with the necessary online resources to support you during your studies. The IT services staff also maintain several computer labs as well as the free campus-wide Wi-Fi network. The Multimedia Office can supply you with cameras and other equipment.
Medical services
The AUP student health care plan is mandatory, unless students can provide proof of an alternative coverage plan at the beginning of each semester that meets AUP’s requirements for exemption. The AUP student health care plan covers the following and more:
- eye glasses and contact lenses
- preventive dental treatment
- alternative medicine such as chiropractic care
Campus life
Our seven campus buildings are all in Paris’s 7th arrondissement, in the heart of the city between Invalides and the Eiffel Tower. All buildings are within close walking distance to each other and the convenient public transport system connects them to the whole of the City of Light. Our flagship Student Life and Learning Commons unites all academic and student support services under one roof. Because our classroom buildings are integrated into the Parisian cityscape, rather than on a traditional closed-off campus, students become part of the local community from day one, frequenting local businesses, cultural and political institutions between classes and activities.
Sports facilities
The American University of Paris' Sports Office is all about our student athletes. The skills you acquire on the playing field are applicable to all facets of life and align directly with our mission to educate. - Basketball
- Cheerleading
- Equestrian
- Indoor soccer
- Volleyball (men’s)
- Volleyball (women’s)
- Baytna à vous
- Creative Writing Club
- Debate and Politics Club
