About

History

Our students have felt the direct benefit of these relationships, and the majority of our courses since 1966 have offered a placement year in industry.

In 1971, Bath University of Technology became the University of Bath. Earlier that year, the University and the city of Bath had exchanged a 999-year lease contract for the use of Claverton Down.

Education

The University offers a broad range of Masters courses and research degrees. Subjects include engineering, design, humanities, social science, management and science.

Our academic programmes are designed to provide both rigorous intellectual challenge and real-world relevance, giving our students the opportunity to study with researchers who are leaders in their field.

Research

87% of our research is world leading (according to REF 2014) so your studies will be informed by some of the most exciting and innovative ideas across all fields.

Ranking 12th in the research quality ranking of UK universities, excluding specialist institutions, we carry out research that makes a difference to society - from developing new drugs to cure breast cancer, working with Ford to develop fuel-efficient engines, to the Queen’s Anniversary Prizewinning research into child poverty.

Services

Student services

You can get help and advice from Student Services at any time. Find out what we do and make sure you get the most out your university experience.

The aim is to build a relationship with tutees that can provide guidance regarding academic progression, pastoral care, signposting to support services, and references. Sometimes life can impact on our students’ capacity to study, pastoral care means providing information, guidance and support, not counselling.

The Senior Tutor in each Department provides support to personal tutors including guidance on scheduling and operation of tutorial sessions and evaluation of the departmental personal tutorial system.

Housing services

Become part of a great student community that will make you feel like the University of Bath is your home away from home.

You can live on the campus or in the heart of the city, and choose accommodation that comes with credit to buy food and drink.

Student Life

Campus life

Our vibrant campus, and location right on the edge of the city of Bath, provide superb sporting, social and cultural opportunities, and was named The Times and Sunday Times Best Campus University.

We have invested in our campus on new student accommodation, new facilities for the arts, new academic buildings and a new Olympic quality swimming pool situated in the stunning Sports Training Village, which is home to medal-winning Olympic athletes, and is open to students for elite and recreational sport.

Sports facilities

If you study at Bath, you can take part in a wide range of sports whatever your level or ability. You could join a club to keep fit and meet people, take part in inter-halls competitions or be selected to represent the University.

Our £30 million Sports Training Village is the centre of sports on campus. You can use the gym, book fitness classes and take part in sport, whether you're a student, member of staff or member of the public.

Student clubs

The Students' Union is run by students for students; everything is driven by what students want.

Every student is a member of the union.

The union represents all students of the University, locally and nationally.

The union is independent from the University and offers free, confidential support on any issues students have, from troubles with your course to support with personal issues.

There are over 150 student groups to get involved in, including academic reps, support groups (including LGBT, postgraduates, disabled students, student parents), sports, societies and volunteering.
