Cascais School of Arts and Design was established in Cascais with the aim of providing specialist education in art, design and the creative industries. CSA has developed a practice-led educational model connecting academic learning, creative experimentation and professional practice, and now offers higher education programmes validated by Coventry University.
CSA provides specialist education focused on art, design and the creative industries. Teaching combines academic knowledge with studio practice, experimentation, technical development and professional projects. Students work in an environment designed to encourage individual creative identity while developing the practical and critical skills required by contemporary creative industries. CSA's higher education portfolio includes BA (Hons) programmes in Graphic Design, Fashion Design & Marketing and Interior Architecture, alongside an MA in Interior Architecture, validated by Coventry University.
Research at CSA is closely connected to creative practice. Students are encouraged to investigate contemporary social, cultural, technological and environmental questions through design and artistic experimentation. Research informs the development of concepts, materials, processes and critical thinking, supporting students in creating work that is both intellectually informed and relevant to contemporary professional practice.
CSA programmes are designed to connect education with professional creative practice. Students develop portfolios, technical skills, critical thinking and project experience relevant to careers across the creative industries. Depending on their discipline, graduates may pursue opportunities in interior architecture, graphic and communication design, fashion design, fashion marketing, creative direction, spatial design and related fields, or continue into postgraduate study and independent creative practice.
CSA provides direct student support through its academic, admissions and administrative teams. Students have access to guidance throughout their studies, including support with enrolment, academic procedures, programme information and day-to-day student matters. The school's relatively small scale allows students to maintain close contact with staff and receive personalised support throughout their academic journey.
CSA has a partnership with NIDO, a dedicated student housing provider located near the school. This gives students access to purpose-designed accommodation within easy reach of the campus, with facilities and services tailored to student life. The CSA team can also support incoming students with information and guidance on accommodation options in Cascais, Estoril and the surrounding area.
CSA provides students with access to a small physical library on campus, complemented by extensive digital resources. All students have access to Perlego, an online academic library with millions of books. Students enrolled in Coventry University-validated programmes also receive access to Coventry University’s online library resources, significantly expanding the academic material available for study and research.
Students have access to on-campus computers, high-speed internet and specialist digital resources supporting creative study. CSA provides access to professional software used across design and creative disciplines, including Adobe Creative Cloud, SketchUp, BricsCAD, Twinmotion and DaVinci Resolve. Technical and IT support is available on campus.
Healthcare facilities are available off campus throughout Cascais and Estoril, including pharmacies, health centres, private clinics and hospitals. CSA staff can provide students with information and guidance on accessing appropriate local healthcare services when required.
CSA is based in Estoril, within the Cascais area and close to Lisbon. The school brings its teaching and creative facilities together in a specialist environment for arts and design education. Students have access to teaching spaces, computer rooms, exhibition areas, workshops, fashion facilities, photography and audiovisual spaces. Cascais and Estoril offer restaurants, cafés, shops, beaches, cultural venues and excellent connections to Lisbon, creating an attractive setting for international student life.
CSA does not operate dedicated university sports facilities. However, its location in Cascais gives students access to an extensive range of sports and outdoor activities, including gyms, swimming, surfing, sailing, cycling, running and other coastal activities. Cascais is particularly recognised for its active outdoor lifestyle and proximity to beaches, parks and sporting facilities.
CSA encourages students to participate actively in the school's creative community through exhibitions, collaborative projects, events, workshops and interdisciplinary activities. Students from different programmes regularly have opportunities to work alongside one another and participate in the cultural and creative life of the school.
The BA (Hons) Graphic Design, BA (Hons) Fashion Design & Marketing, BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and MA Interior Architecture programmes delivered at Cascais School of Arts & Design are validated by Coventry University, United Kingdom. Students who successfully complete the relevant programme requirements receive the corresponding Coventry University award.
