History
The university was founded in 1970, starting with teacher training courses and programmes on educational sciences. In 1993, the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Management and Economics were set up. The Faculty of Technical Sciences was established in 2007. The Faculty of Social Sciences was created in 2023. In 2019, Europe's largest drone hall was opened at the university's campus.
Education
The University of Klagenfurt offers studies in the fields of business, culture, languages, media, law, psychology, technology and teaching. In addition, there are extension programmes, free electives and over 30 continuing education programmes. The student to professor ratio at the university is around 38 to 1. In other words, you’re not just an anonymous (matriculation) number here. Instead, your lecturers will encourage and challenge you individually. The range of courses includes 21 Bachelor’s programmes, 30 Master’s programmes, 14 Teacher training courses and 5 Doctoral programmes.
Research
The university's researchers work in a wide range of disciplines (humanities, economics, social sciences, technical sciences, interdisciplinary studies). With their research projects, many contribute to anticipating and shaping the profound changes that accompany digitalisation. They seek to shed light on many aspects of the digital revolution, but especially the technological, economic, legal, social, behavioural, and cultural aspects. The recently established Digital Age Research Centre (D!ARC) provides the organisational framework for this bold attempt to shape the transition to the digital age.

The International Office serves as hub of information for students and staff and is responsible for the university’s international activities in teaching and education. The International Office team advises students who plan to study in Klagenfurt.
The Admissions and Examinations Office is responsible for admissions, recognition of qualifications, individual studies, entitlement to study, examinations, completing a programme of study and space requests. The office is therefore the key point of contact for students all the way from matriculation to graduation.Housing services

Library services
The university library is our academic information centre and provides literature and information media for studying, research, teaching and continuing education. The university library is the largest library in Carinthia. The origins of the library date back to the second half of the sixteenth century. It is home to around 950,000 printed books and extensive e-resources.
ICT services
At the University of Klagenfurt, students, teachers and researchers are supported by one of the best IT service providers through a wide range of IT services in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT). Campus life
The campus is set in 10 hectares of beautiful parkland and features modern infrastructure. It is nestled between the city centre with its beautiful, southern Renaissance flair and Lake Wörthersee, a stunning blue lake. The campus is fresh, green, and well arranged. The northern and central buildings as well as the exterior facades were comprehensively refurbished in 2018. All campus facilities are within easy walking distance. The university is a wonderful place to study, enjoy culture, and meet friends. The “Lakeside Science & Technology Park” is located in the immediate vicinity of the university and is home to around 70 companies and institutions, predominantly from the technology sector.
Sports facilities
Our University Sports Institute offers over 250 sports courses that are guaranteed to keep you fit throughout your studies. Lots of our courses are held outside. During the beautiful summer months, you can paddle, swim, kayak or sail in the stunning Lake Wörthersee. During winter, pristine slopes await you in the vicinity of our campus. Hiking, climbing, mountainbiking, everything is possible.
Student clubs
There is a vibrant student life on and around campus. The student’s union organizes social events all year around, such as quiz, film and game evenings. There are a variety of societies and music groups you can participate in and local charities you can get involved with. Partner organisations like the Carinthian International Centre additionally offer cultural and social events, from networking sessions to picnics, coffee mornings and monthly book clubs.
