Faculty of Civil Engineering

Economy requires contemporary offices and spaces for industry; also developing of public buildings and housing. But not only development of new facilities is required – there is the demand also for reconstructing the existing buildings and bringing them back to use. Sometimes these renovation projects are even more complex and complicated compared to the brand new ones. Therefore our civil engineers are faced with new challenges offering more opportunities for profitable placements in the companies. Construction sector related institutions are seeking for talented young engineers equipped with innovative knowledge and skills and laptops for working not only the offices but also on the sites.

The Faculty has long history – it has been born together with the University in 1918. Currently the Faculty has good reputation in the national construction market and all syllabuses there are internationally accredited. Graduates can also demonstrate their capability when participating in research and development projects – the academic staff of the Faculty is involved in several international EU funded projects, but also the national business-sector requires the academic expertise and consultancy. Major landmark-buildings of Estonia – theatres, song festival tribunes, high-rises, bridges, etc. – have become reality also due to the input of the academic staff of the Faculty.

At the same time the term ‘civil engineering’ has become the umbrella for the Faculty where one can specialise on different fields of engineering related to built and green environments. Structural design, environmental protection, roads and bridges, coastal engineering, management and economics – this is only the shortlist of specialisations available. It is sure that the students when studying will gain deep knowledge of engineering and economics. There are the laboratories for construction materials, land surveying, water analyses, strength of structures, hydromechanics, etc. where the students can independently carry out different testing exercises.
