History
Founded in 1973, the University of Minho welcomed its first students in the academic year of 1975/76. At present, the University is renowned for its competence and quality of teaching staff, excellence in scientific research, wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses offered and for its high level of interaction with other institutions.

The Academic Services have their own facilities in both of the university's campi (Gualtar and Azurém), providing close support to all students.

Considering the limited number of rooms available for exchange students at the Residences and the first-come first-served basis for the assignment, it is advisable to send us the Application Form for Accommodation properly filled in as soon as possible.
Library services
The University of Minho has several libraries at the disposal of the academic community. The main university libraries are managed by the Documentation Services. These are the General Library in the Gualtar Campus, the U.M. Library in Guimarães, in the Azurém Campus and the Congregados Building Library. These libraries contain an important body of documents, covering all fields of knowledge.
Campus life
The University of Minho is located in the Braga district, near the northern coastline of Portugal. There are three campi in two main cities of the district: Braga and Guimarães. Both cities combine tradition and history with a modern and cosmopolitan vibe.
Sports facilities
The Higher Education student needs to take part in regular sports activities, in multiple aspects. They promote socialisation, the ability to overcome obstacles, team spirit, diversity, equality, excellence, and many others.
