Ever since its founding in 1868, TUM has been at the forefront of innovation. TUM scientists today have the same goal as their 19th century counterparts: finding solutions to the major challenges facing society as we move forward. TUM was founded to provide the state of Bavaria with a center of learning dedicated to the natural sciences.
For the third time in a row, the TUM won the title of "Excellence University" in July 2019. This makes TUM the only technical university that has been consistently successful in the excellence competition of the federal and state governments from the beginning (2006).

TUM was system-accredited by the Swiss Center of Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education (OAQ) on 14 May 2014, with no stipulations imposed. The decision reached by the OAQ's Accreditation Commission is valid through 30 September 2021, and applies to all degree programs that have passed TUM's internal QM assessment procedures.

The TUM has a lot of money, which is beneficial to organise a lot of different courses. The negative side is, that the exams are in an old style, the university should change the style, give more time but also make the exams better instead of it beeing a thing of how fast you are, the university could improve the quality of the exams. The practical courses are really good and gives and helps to understand the theory better -> there should be more practical courses be offered.
