The predecessor of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) was founded in the rural town of Nagyszombat in 1635 by Cardinal Péter Pázmány, as a catholic university for teaching Theology and Philosophy. In 1770-1780, the University was transferred to Buda and later to Pest, and with the support of Maria Theresa, the Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary, became the Royal Hungarian University.
Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) offers a wide range of degree programs to international students who intend to obtain a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree at ELTE and who want to complete the entire program in English at ELTE in Budapest, Hungary.
Courses of all programs are in English but the courses for majors in foreign languages at the Faculty of Humanities are always offered in the given language. The language of instruction and the language requirements of a particular program are indicated in the description of the given program.
As member of various consortia, ELTE also offers joint degree programs together with other European universities

International relations of the university are coordinated by the International Strategy Office of the Rector’s Cabinet, the Department of Erasmus+ and International Programmes and the faculty international relations offices. The International Strategy Office of the Rector’s Cabinet and the Department of Erasmus+ and International Programmes belongs to the central administration under the professional control of the Vice-Rector for International Affairs.The international relations offices of the faculties work under the Faculty Dean’s Offices. They operate under the professional supervision of the Vice-Dean in charge of international relations at their faculty.
The Dormitory Centre, a central department, offers hundreds of high quality and affordable places and strong community in the ELTE dormitories. More than half of the international students request a dormitory place. The Housing Office, its sub-department, helps you finding an accommodation according to your individual needs by our partners on the private market including apartment houses, flats, and hostels.
The library network of the Eötvös Loránd University has altogether about 4.3 million documents. The company provides capacity for university citizens in five sports establishments – in the Sports Yards at 10/A. and 10/B. Bogdánfy street, in the Sports Yard in Mérnök Street, in the Water Sports Centre, and in the Gym in Tüskecsarnok.
The ELTE Water Sports Centre is situated next to the Soroksár fork of the Danube on the river bank; its features make it ideal for people doing water sports.
In the parquet gym all indoor sporting activities can be organised, from small field football to basketball, volleyball and handball or badminton.

I really like student life at ELTE. I study in the Social Science campus and there are always events, mentoring programs and something to do between classes. The professors are also well-prepared. I wish they open the library, it's under renovations for over 6 months by now...
I would say before going any agency, Firstly we should take a look of here to get tha authentic information about study abroad
Some of the departments are great, others not so much. There is a lot of old teachers, some of them are awesome and keep up with current trends but some are stuck in the '80s honestly. There are many filler subjects that don't give you anything new. Of course this is not generally applicable, there were some really nice and practical courses, too. However, the facilities are not great at all. Most of the buildings don't have benches to sit on and desks to work at, the Wifi does NOT cover the entire campus and it is full of blind spots. In the libraries you cannot take your own bag, even if you have 4-5 books and tons of electronics with you, you have to pack them all in the tote bag they provide which is an annoyment and a waste of time. The canteens are overpriced for a student budget, and the cheaper one is low quality as well. The administration is horrible and you feel like you are in 2003, having to hand in everything on paper, photocopy, scan, reprint, sign, rescan, queue up for hours and repeat till you go insane... The dormitories are very cheap but also in terrible condition, many would prefer a BIT more for a better place of living as affording a rented flat in this city is incredibly hard unless you work a lot on the side... Overall whether I recommend this university (more precisely, the Faculty of Humanities of ELTE) would depend on the department you choose. Scandinavic studies - hell yea. Slavonic studies - hell no. Only good thing is that you have a crazy wide variety of foreign languages+their philology you can study.
