The community of Trieste’s wish to establish a University is first documented in the 1800s when the city’s port was built.
At that time, local leaders asked the Imperial House of Austria to endow the city with a University to support its flourishing trade and establish a suitable institution to provide citizens with an education and training in legal and economic studies.
Our academic activity must be oriented to transfer a large contribution of knowledge endowments, as to provide young generations with the appropriate skills for wide overviews and real innovation through a cultural process of knowledge integration.
The University of Trieste is widely recognized and highly ranked both nationally and internationally. It looks to strengthen its role as a top Research University, with the aim to increase the PhD Programmes and its collaboration with national and international research facilities while working to recruit top level scientists and researchers.
The Careers Service is responsible for placement and careers advice for future graduates, graduates and research students at the University of Trieste. The aim of these two actions is to reduce to a minimum the time needed for young people to enter the labour market. Everyday, staff provide information on employment opportunities, professional openings offered by courses of study, continuing education initiatives, and the strengthening of active means of finding a job.
The University provides students with a series of on-line services to make life at university easier.
Services are accessed with the username and password issued on enrollment.
If they fulfil the necessary academic and economic requirements and are on the ranking list drawn up by ARDISS, students may be able to apply for a room.
Italian students not resident in Trieste, as well as EU and non-EU students can have access to a family doctor and use the general medical services provided by the Family Clinics of the Trieste Integrated Health Service as specified in the conditions shown in the service's information sheet.
The University’s main site is in Trieste ,in Piazzale Europa 1 overlooking the city. The historical central structure dating back to 1924 is flanked by more modern buildings to create a university campus with offices, classrooms and laboratories for almost all the degree courses. The campus hosts the single-cycle degree course in Law (Department of Legal, Language, Interpreting and Translation Studies), the bachelor’s and master’s courses in Engineering (Department of Engineering and Architecture) and the bachelor’s and master’s courses of the Department of Political and Social Sciences, the Department of Physics, the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
The International School of Trieste has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) since 1990. The accreditation process certifies a school's level of commitment to providing an education of the highest quality for its students.
