History

The Poznań University of Life Sciences is a leading university of life sciences in Poland. It may boast of rich traditions, as its beginnings date back to the year 1870 and are connected with the activity of an outstanding philosopher, a patron of agricultural science and education, August Cieszkowski.

Education

At present we have almost 8 000 students, and 1 400 employees. Our eight Faculties offer a wide scope of education within a lot of interesting fields of study, including Biology, Biotechnology, Landscape Architecture, Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Wood technology, Environmental Protection, Animal Science, Food Technology, etc.

Research

This research activity meets the requirements of the National Programme for Research and R&D, defining priority research areas and directions. Research conducted by the University staff is focused particularly on five strategic programmes proposed in that document for research and R&D activities, i.e. 

Rational management of water resources for sustainable development of Poland, Innovative foodstuffs of high nutritive and health-promoting value, Competitiveness and innovative character of Polish economy in terms of sustainable development as well as Advanced technologies to generate energy from coal and renewable sources.

Library services

The Main Library together with its two branches and specialist libraries forms a library and information system of our University. Its collection comprises 721 336 thousand volumes. Journals collected at the Library include 595 Polish and 143 foreign titles. An integrated system, Horizon, operates at the Library.
