The Nuclear Engineering program from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) was designed to meet the highest demands of students interested in nuclear engineering. Leading European professors with vast experience both in scientific research and in practical aspects of the industry provide intensive academic program, covering in detail the following aspects: introduction to nuclear engineering, physical basis of nuclear energy, nuclear fuel cycle; construction of nuclear reactor, technological schemes of nuclear power plants with various types of reactors, modeling of vaporization processes; nuclear engineering for energy production (Generation III, Generation IV and Small Modular Reactor technologies); nuclear safety and economics of nuclear power. Excursion to the fully operating Leningradskaya NPP-1 and to Leningradskaya NPP-2, which is being constructed at the moment, is an essential part of the program.

Programme Structure

The cultural program includes:

  • Boat city tour for students to get acquainted with the beauty of the city
  • Excursion to the Hermitage, one of the world’s largest and oldest museums of fine art;
  • Trip to Peterhof, world famous for its fountains;
  • Picnic at the seashore of the Gulf of Finland where students can enjoy Russian style barbecue;
  • Excursion to beautiful suburbs near St. Petersburg with the palaces' visit. Pushkin / Pavlovsk / Oranienbaum;
  • Photocross;
  • Campus tour;
  • Russian language & culture class;
  • Closing Ceremony in art space.
