Overview
Machine components are basic mechanical parts used as the building block for machines. Bearings play a momentous role in the incipient Industrial Revolution. The most common bearing is the plain bearing, which uses surfaces in rubbing contact. Bearings, in general, vary greatly in the size. They have different operating speeds. They require a periodic maintenance and cleaning in order to prevent premature failure.
Gear drives are more practical and widely used in mechanical transmission. They are mainly used to reduce angular velocities. Chain drives are used to carry heavy loads and provide high transmission efficiency. Clutches are mainly used in places where power or motion has to be controlled.
Outcomes
After completion of this Fundamental Components Involved in Machinery programme at IDC Technologies, students will know about some of the basic components involved in machines, their types, advantages and their uses.
