The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) from Moraine Valley Community College is intended for students who do not meet the English requirements for an academic program. After students complete the program, they can move directly into an academic program at the college. If the student does not wish to progress into an academic program, they can complete the program as a stand-alone course.

Moraine Valley Community College is a 2-year institution. We offer Associate transfer degree programs for students who want to earn a bachelor’s degree from a four-year university in the United States. Students complete the first two years or approximately 62 to 65 credit hours of a bachelor’s degree at Moraine Valley and then transfer to a 4-year institution to continue their studies in the specific areas of their major.

The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) from Moraine Valley Community College is a full-time, on-campus program. Students take an entrance exam upon entering the program and are placed in one of three different levels. Most students complete the program in one, or two years, but it is possible to finish in as little as one semester. 


Moraine Valley is accredited by: North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, The Higher Learning Commission. Additionally the college maintains State Recognitions from the Illinois Community College Board and Illinois Board of Higher Education.

Programme Structure

  • To graduate from the  Intensive English Language Program (IELP), students must complete the highest level of English coursework (Level 3). 
  •  After completing the program, students can matriculate into an academic program, or return to their home-country.

English Language Requirements

  • Minimum required score:


    The TOEFL iBT ® measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The test has four sections (reading, listening, speaking, and writing), each with a score range of 0-30, for a total score range of 0-120.

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00.     The TOEFL®PBT is administered in a paper format and measures your ability to use and understand English in a classroom setting at the college or university level. It accurately measures how well you can listen, read and write in English while performing academic tasks.

General Requirements

  • $25 one-time, non-refundable application fee
  • No English proficiency required for admission. Students will be tested in English upon arrival and placed in our Intensive English Language Program if needed. Students who have a TOEFL scores of 525 paper based, 197 computer based, or 71 internet based, or above and present official TOEFL transcripts; or an IELTS of 5.5 or above, you will be eligible to waive the placement test and register in regular academic college classes from their program of study.

Students must verify a minimum of $21,707 or the equivalent available for tuition and living expenses. The Financial Sponsor or student must submit a bank letter of bank statement at the time of applying.
