Overview
The twentieth century saw enormous progress in addressing various challenges related to human development, including rapid economic growth, poverty alleviation, improved healthcare, the recognition of climate-related risks, and efforts to reduce racial, gender, and religious inequalities. These developments call for a deeper understanding of the interconnections among social, economic, and environmental challenges in order to provide policy guidance for a legitimate, equitable, and evidence-informed transition towards sustainability. With its core emphasis on interdisciplinarity and incommensurability, ecological economics provides a valuable conceptual framework for exploring the transitions needed to achieve sustainability.
This intensive Summer School will cover both theoretical and applied topics. Participants will be introduced to the work of scholars regarded as the pioneers of ecological economics and the degrowth movement. Particular attention will be devoted to Nicholas Georgescu-Roegen and his epistemology, grounded in process philosophy. One day will be dedicated to Integrated Assessment Modelling.
A full description of the course content and organisational details is available on the dedicated website.
