Overview
Details of the International Politics, Identity and Nationhood Summer School course at Aberystwyth University
These will encompass the impact of economic and social change, structural and political reform, the implications of dynamics such as migration for the politics of identity and nationhood, and shifting perceptions of Welsh identity and nationhood in the arts.
These sessions will be delivered by academic staff and researchers from the departments of International Politics, Geography and Earth Sciences, and History and Welsh History. They will provide an inter-disciplinary approach to examining questions of identity and nationhood, and will encourage participants to reflect on their own identities and loyalties in the 21st Century.
Programme Structure
Through an interactive programme of seminars, roundtable discussions and visits, the course will examine the following specific aspects of identity and nationhood:
- Economic and social change in Wales
- Structural and political change
- Migration and the politics of identity
- Welsh identity and nationhood in the arts

- The programme is broad enough to engage students from a variety of subject backgrounds. It will be of particular interest to students of international relations, politics, social studies, sociology but has also been greatly enjoyed and appreciated by students majoring in sciences, agriculture, languages. If you are in any doubt, please get in touch!
- We ask that you are over 18 years of age, already studying at college or university, with a minumum GPA of 3.0, and that you are ready and open for lively debate and discussion.
