Overview
You’ll explore topics such as talking about health, travel, expressing moods and feelings before delving deeper into Spanish grammar, including the use of the future. You’ll work with audio and video resources and have access to a dedicated website, online forums and a learning adviser throughout your study. Ideally, you should have some knowledge of Spanish, either because you have learned the language informally or through previous study such as Elementary Spanish 1: ¡en camino! (LGXS004).
After successfully completing this Elementary Spanish 2 course at The Open University UK, you will receive a digital badge. This can be shared on social media, added to email signatures or act as a certificate.
You will learn
After completing this course, you should be able to:
- communicate with speakers of Spanish in a limited range of predictable and simple contexts relating to everyday situations.
- understand and use simple Spanish grammatical structures (for example, questions and statements), and common terms for everyday objects and events.
- recognise and use basic Spanish phrases in formal and informal styles of communication and use polite forms of address and greetings.
- show basic intercultural communicative competence, including an awareness of Spanish-speaking cultures and societies.
The course is designed to help you achieve a level of language proficiency equivalent to level A1 of the Council of Europe Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR).
Programme Structure
In each unit you'll explore Spanish language, culture, and specific learning techniques including activities to help memorise words and phrases.
As you develop your vocabulary and understanding you'll cover topics including:
- talking about your health
- giving and receiving advice
- talking about states of mind
- understanding the difference between adverbs and adjectives
- expressing intentions
- using expressions for the near future
- taking about the weather
- taking about the seasons and what to wear
- making predictions
- using the single future and irregular verbs
- making comparisons.
