About

Learn how to produce stunning multi-coloured designs and become a confident screenprinter in no time on this comprehensive The Art of Screenprinting course at the Arts University Bournemouth.

Overview

About this course

This The Art of Screenprinting course at the Arts University Bournemouth is ideal if you're planning a career as a print technician, studio helper, workshop assistant, or as an artist and designer looking to broaden your creative horizons. Likewise, it's perfect for complete beginners that wish to try screenprinting for the first time.

You'll be one of only 10 students, so you'll have maximum individual attention from your tutor. You'll use photographic stencil emulsions to make screens from photographic, digital or hand-drawn sources.

You'll also use methods of working directly on the screen mesh, allowing experimental print work to be carried out for use with paper and fabrics.

At the end of the course you'll have produced and accumulated many high-standard individual and creative pieces for portfolio submission or to frame and display for years to come.

Programme Structure

What you'll learn:
  • How to produce colourful interesting images from your own designs
  • Experiment with many different, exciting stencil making techniques such as paper stencil, photographic and stencils
  • How and when to apply stencil making techniques, ensuring that they're suitable for different effects/textures/images
  • To register multiple colour layers to create your design
  • The proper set up the screen, using the squeegee and the studio’s specialist screenprinting equipment
  • Explore the possibilities available through colour mixing, use of transparency and the overlaying of transparent or opaque layers
