About the course
- Once you get familiar with the basic drawing tools you will begin to uncover much more complex and intricate methods and techniques for making 3D objects. This Architectural Visualisation with SketchUp and V-Ray course is offered at the University of the Arts London (UAL).
Programme Structure
Topics covered:- The objects created in SketchUp can be used in many fields of practice such as architecture, set and stage design, interior design and also for objects including protoying products, ceramics and furniture.
- Along with using Sketchup this course will also introduce you to rendering and working with V-Ray and Sketchup.
- The course will introduce the basics of 3D computer geometry, you will practice creating 3D geometry, learn how to save and move objects between different 3D computer drawing tools. You will also learning how to capture your design as rendered images for use in a range of application.

General requirements
Sketchup is suited both to those who want the use of a tool that with help them resolve a three-dimensional problem and to those who want to use the tool for more advanced design purposes.
Please bring with you for the first session:
- Sketchbook or notebook (A4 or A3 sizes are ideal)
- A box of matches
- Sketching pencils, a set of at least 3 (HB, B, H)
- Pens for sketching, Extra Fine, Fine, Medium and thicker. Preferably black
- Sharpener
- Eraser
- Scale Rule with the following scales: 1:1/1:100, 1:20/1:200, 1:5/1:50, 1:1250/1:2500
- Tape measure
- A3 tracing pad (minimum 60 gsm - but a heavier weight may be better as it is more forgiving)
Items required for the latter half of the course:
- Adjustable set square (20 cm minimum)
- Isometric graph paper pad, size A4
