Overview
What you will study
The objective of the Biomass Energy Utilization System program offered by Hokkaido University is to learn fundamental concept and planning methods of biomass energy utilization systems in regions and to clarify critical problems to implement the systems to achieve a sustainable society. Each class consists of lecture and group discussion with presentation.
Given specific examples of the challenges in waste recycling systems in Japan, you learn the importance of well-designed system of recycling in an appropriate overall balance. Namely, in order to design good recycling systems, we have to define the objective, carefully consider the conditions of input and output, responsible organization, the characteristics of the region and select the best recycling technology.

- Biomass utilization
- Anaerobic digestion system planning and its social effects
- Utilization system of wood for energy supply and its social effects
- Group working to conduct case study to develop biomass utilization systems considering regional conditions.
