Formative assessment is an active learning and assessment process that involves both the teacher and the students to gather evidence of learning. Formative assessment provides feedback that can be used by instructors to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning.
By taking the Using Formative Assessment Strategies to Facilitate Student Learning course offered by King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi , the educator elicits, interprets, and uses evidence of student learning from formative assessment to facilitate student learning.

- Strategy 1 involves students in defining, developing, discussing, and reflecting assessment criteria to help students understand the expected learning outcomes.
- Strategy 2 gathers how and what students are learning through instruction and assessment approaches.
