Overview
What you will study
The purpose of the Photovoltaic Installation (Solar PV) course offered by North-West University (NWU) is to provide participants with:
- A broad knowledge of solar PV principles, technology and its application (based on a registered SAQA qualification)
- knowledge and skills to size solar PV and battery systems (although battery systems are not required or assessed by SAPVIA PV GreenCard at this stage),
- knowledge and skills to perform online simulations with tools like Sunny Design Web,
- the ability to practically design, assemble, install and wire solar PV modules and relevant equipment,
- adequate knowledge and skills to attend the PV GreenCard assessment (which is a separate two-day session offered in Johannesburg. and Cape Town),
- the ability to become a SAPVIA endorsed PV GreenCard installer, with the capacity to attend and pass the PV GreenCard assessment (which is not part of our training package).
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:- Basic knowledge and understanding of basic concepts of electricity related to photovoltaics.
- Knowledge of, and the ability to appreciate various applications of solar photovoltaics.
- The ability to identify, analyse and define basic problems related to the different configurations for module interconnection.
