- This Advanced Mandarin course at University of Johannesburg is designed for students who have completed Intermediate Mandarin or equivalent courses.
- Based on the Chinese language and culture knowledge students have gained in previous courses, Advanced Mandarin (Module 1) starts to move towards a more advanced level. The expectations for the students are for good communication skills in Mandarin (both spoken and written) for everyday life and work, in addition to appropriate communication strategies.
Programme Structure
Curriculum:
- The course is tutorial based with a combination of class activity and group work; use of audio-visual material as teaching aids (CDs and DVDs). Tutoring will be mostly in Chinese.
- The course is organised thematically according to relevant function notions. Tutoring will be focused on the integration of skills necessary to advance students’ language skills in all areas including listening, reading, writing and speaking.
- Supplementary material and homework is prepared by the teacher.
