What you will study

The Managing Complex Health and Care Needs of Frail Older People course offered by University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) will be structured around the use of key lectures to provide the context for and support of module themes. The module will use focused group work and class discussions within face to face tutor time. Throughout the module a range of external speakers and service users will be invited to speak to the student group demonstrating contemporary approaches to working with the frail older adult.

Programme Structure

The program focuses on:

  • Explore the relationship between co-morbidity, cognitive decline, polypharmacy and ageing, and the impact on the frail older person’s health Critically discuss end of life care, safeguarding and ethics in the context of the inter-professional team
  • Appraise the relevant evidence base for the collaborative inter-professional evaluation and management of the ageing population.
  • Examine challenges when managing complex care needs in relation to health and social care outcomes.
