Overview

The Next steps in creative writing course offered by University of Cambridge aims is to:

  • build on your knowledge of the craft of creative writing

As a result of the course, you will gain a greater understanding of the subject and you should be able to:

  • have a greater understanding of how to make your creative tools work harder for you

Programme Structure

Curriculum:

  • From a potato to an octopus. A worry-free guide to creative writing 
  • Whose story is it anyway? – finding your writing voice 
  • Building your world – mastering descriptive skills 
  • Plotting the storyline – how to develop your narrative 
  • Divertimento – an evening exercise playing with words 
  • Getting into character – how to handle personality 
  • Nuts and bolts – a round-up session in which we look at techniques for improving style and the all-important editing process.
