About

The catastrophic 14th century course offered by University of Cambridge assesses how human responses to dramatic events set northwest Europe on the pathway to modernity.

Overview

What you will study

Centuries of expansion and efflorescence were first halted then decisively reversed through a series of catastrophic events during the 14th century. The worst famine in recorded history, the worst bovine epizootic, the two worst health crises - the Black Death of the 1340s, then the second pestilence a decade later - and a series of extreme weather events as the global climate cooled. The catastrophic 14th century course offered by University of Cambridge explores and explains these events, with a particular focus on England.
