What you will study
Archaeology was once described as a means to ‘prove demonstratively those Facts which are asserted in History’. Yet the results of archaeological investigation do not always fall into line lockstep with existing views of history. This Unexpected pasts - ancient discoveries that should not exist course offered by University of Cambridge will investigate the true depth of human prehistory, what is believed to be the earliest representation of the cosmos, a mechanical Greek computer, the Sutton Hoo ship burial, and lost cities in the jungles of South America. As well as investigating the finds themselves, we will examine their impact on how we view our human past.

- Our weekend courses are open to participants over the age of 18 and courses are taught at approximately first-year undergraduate level. No academic qualifications are required and most courses are suitable for students who are new to the subject. Please ensure that you complete any required reading listed in your course materials before the course starts to enable you to fully participate and get the maximum enjoyment out of your course.
