Key facts
The Technology Development & Impact Assessment course at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) includes:
- review of the available assessment methods
- analysis of conditions under which the various methods can best be used
- combination of methods for effective solutions
- methods to ensure the consideration of different interests, views and values
- ways of reconciling diverging, competing and conflicting values
The course introduces concepts like 'socio-technical system' (technology plus actors and institutions involved) and 'technological regime' (rule-set). A simple Technology Assessment step-by-step plan is presented as a base for recording Impact Assessment as well as a comprehensive evaluation. The focus is on big dam, port expansion and nuclear power plant projects.
On completion of this course you will:
Understand the main theoretical viewpoints concerning the dynamics of technology and society. From this you will be able to develop workable 'models' for co-evolution and co-construction of technology.

- A BSc in Engineering, systems engineering or applied sciences.
- If you do not meet these requirements because you don't have a relevant Bachelor's degree but you have an academic Bachelor's degree and you think you have sufficient knowledge and experience to complete the course, you are welcome to apply. The faculty decides whether you will be admitted based on the information you have sent.
- TOEFL score 90+ (this is an internet-based test)

- University of Cambridge: "Certificate of Proficiency in English" or "Certificate in Advanced English"
