What you will study
The background, fundamentals, techniques, and equipment covered in this Food Safety in Aquaponics course offered by Lethbridge College will help you to identify the possible risk areas in your operation (e.g. products used, supplies storage, the process of harvest, etc.) and help you navigate the many areas in your operation that you need to stay diligent with in order to secure the integrity of your fish and plant products. It is hoped that after this module your mindset will be changed and open to how you can better address and intervene in food safety risks in your aquaponics operation.
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:
- Evaluate all parts of your operation to lower food safety risks in your aquaponics operation.
- Identify and improve on your equipment handling and materials storage to address food safety.
- Identify and differentiate between the three main types of food safety hazards.
- Understand the certification process for food safety.
- Compare how aquaponics is different and similar to other forms of growing with regards to food safety implications
