Overview
What you will study
Handling of solids using aerobic bioreactor technology will take your aquaponics system to another level of sustainability and efficiency with the added benefits of greater productivity and reduced risk. The Solids and Waste Handling in Aquaponics course offered by Lethbridge College will discuss how current technologies can be used to capture and process solids most efficiently. Through describing the role of microbiology in the processes that transform suspended solids into the dissolved nutrients our systems plants require, we'll explore the importance of solids handling in aquaponics.
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:
- Apply the knowledge of aerobic bioreactors to become more sustainable
- Differentiate between the different microbial processes involved in mineralization
- Compare and assess the processes of filtration and dewatering in solids handling
- Evaluate the benefits of aerobic bioreactors in comparison to current animal waste-handling practices and anaerobic solutions
