Course content
This 10-day equivalent Occupational therapy driver assessment and rehabilitation educational topic at Flinders University will explore key issues that impact upon driver assessment including medico-legal requirements, state legislation, driver cognitive, perceptual, visual and physical function, on-road assessment, and will assist participants in communicating appropriate recommendations and reports following assessment.
Learning outcomes
Describe models of driver behaviour and discuss the application of the Assessing Fitness to Drive Guidelines and Standards for Health Professionals in Australia within the context of federal and local legislation, ethical and medico-legal requirements.
Explore methods of assessment of visual, cognitive, perceptual and physical functioning and learn to analyse results for appropriate recommendations.
Review ergonomics and appropriate vehicle modifications.
On-road assessment.
Observation and assessment tools.
Formulating and communicating assessment outcomes and recommendations.
Program planning, training, ergonomics, modifications and rehabilitation.
